Labor Day Weekend

For two people who didn't have formal plans for the weekend, we sure did cram in a lot of activities and fun! Saturday, after dialysis, we met for lunch at Mike Linnig's with Jerry's siblings, Mike, Sandy, Betty, and Jackie. We ate huge slabs of fish outdoors and caught up with each others' lives. His family meets once a month like that to stay in touch; I love that continuity.

That evening offered one of the best events of the year downtown on the Belvedere, the World Fest. There were food booths from Australia, the Congo, Mexico, China, South America, Vietnam. Crafts booths crowded up against each other and as we wandered from one to the other, music strained to make its way between them. You could just listen to or dance to Reggae or a New Orleans Jazz band. One band in particular captured our attention for quite some time. It was made up of a couple of guys from Eastern Kentucky (one was a Sizemore from Hazard!), a Peruvian (?), a couple more from South America (?). They play what they called "Appalatin", a combination of traditional mountain music but set to a Latin beat. One of my favorites was "Shady Grove" but with Latin sounds and rhythms!
