Labor Day Weekend

Our September 5th Sunday afternoon was devoted to the huge flea market at the fairgrounds. It's always interesting to see what kind of new gimmick shows up for those. This one seemed to have an over abundance of beads and crystals for making your own jewelry; ready-made, sparkly jewelry; and 1000 thread count sheets. We were going to buy new sheets but scoffed when we saw the price, $14.95! They were labeled "Egyptian Comfort" so at first glance, the brain substituted "Egyptian Cotton" since that's what we were looking for. Needless to say, we passed on those since they were actually made of some kind of synthetic fabric. The only thing I bought was a novel titled Bardstown; the author herself was at a booth touting her various publications. I bought this one since I grew up in Bardstown; I want to see if she captured the spirit of the town.

Monday, we spent a few hours at the old Water Tower station on River Road. That was the site of the annual Bluegrass Festival so we hauled in folding chairs, hiked across the grassy field, got all set up with a beer and funnel cake, and baked in the sun! The band we were most interested in hearing is called "Storefront Congregation". In the 1960's Jerry and I went to a joint by the same name; it was located on Bardstown Road near Mid City Mall. We thought this band would bring back some of the flavor of that place. Wrong. They played and sang well but did little true Bluegrass music. :-(

Playing poker with our Autumn Trace friends filled out the full weekend.
